Prostate-Specific Antigen (PSA)
The Prostate Specific Antigent (PSA) blood test measures the level of PSA in a man's blood. PSA levels under 4 ng/mL are generally normal for a healthy male. According to published studies, PSA levels between 4 and 10 result in a 25% chance of prostate cancer and a PSA result greater than 10 increases the risk of cancer to 67%. Rising levels of PSA over time are highly indicative of prostate cancer and consequently periodic testing is recommended. Following is a sample of the results of the PSA blood test. The reference interval indicates the normal ranges and the flag indicates a result outside of those ranges.
